The Raspberry Pi

Today, people are in search of products which are more efficient and use minimal resources. If we talk about computers, they have been diminishing since generations. As a matter of fact, people are demanding small sized computers. So, keeping space and size as the main motto, Raspberry Pi Foundation has developed a credit card sized computer, Raspberry Pi.

Its not so, that, as it is so small, it is not capable. Even though it is very small, to be called a computer, it can perform every task, which an ideal PC can do, from playing games to connecting to Internet. It is simply a board with 2x2.0 USB ports, an RJ-45 connector port, an HDMI port, an RCA video port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, has 512 MB of SDRAM and  a micro USB power input port. It doesn't have permanent storage, rather it boots from SD card. The recent and advanced model B has the above specs. Earlier, model A was introduced, which didn't had the Ethernet port, had only 1 USB port and the RAM was just 256 MB. Here are the tech specs on Raspberry pi Model B-

Processor -

700 MHz ARM1176 (ARM11 Family)
Note-It can be overclocked upto 1GHz in Turbo versions

Graphics -

Broadcom VideoCore IV OpenGL ES 2.0
HDMI/RCA Video output

Memory -

SDRAM - 512 MB (Model B)
other storage via SD, memory card

Networking -

10/100 RJ-45 Ethernet port

Supported OS -

Linux,Android(4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich), Unix, etc

It is suitable for any work and can act as a normal PC at a very low price. It can easily beat today's cellphones, which are even more costlier. It can also play 14 HDMI resolutions from 640 x 350 to 1920 x 1200..!!!It is capable of playing Blu Ray Video.

In all, you just need a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, and a USB power adapter to start, and it will behave like an ideal CPU. Have a look at the working of Raspberry Pi over here -

Interestingly, it is available at a very low price of just 2751 INR/35$. You can place your order at this site.
Indian customers can buy from here.
